--Charles Darwin ---Award Winning - Education Sessions

In 2009 we celebrated the 200th Anniversary of Charles Darwin, one of the UK's most influential scientists, and the 150th Anniversary of the publication of his book – On the Origin of Species, which included his theory of Evolution by Natural Selection.

The Education Team paid homage to our national treasure on Saturday 18th July 2009 with our very own 'Darwin Day'.

Darwin Day 2009

At Darwin Day we celebrated the importance of Darwin’s theories and their profound influence on the very ‘Nature of Life’.

Visitors had hands-on opportunities to handle snakes, rats, bugs and birds and ask our knowledgeable animal keepers questions about Darwin's adventures and what life was like as an explorer.

Darwinian Quiz

The Wildlife Park Darwinian Quiz had us all scratching our heads but the 'brainy' winners received a VIP Bug Experience with one of our invert experts which was well worth the brain power! (For more information about the Bug Experience and other park experiences click here).

Darwin as a child collected beetles and visitors were treated to our collection of skulls, artifacts and specimens. Budding naturalists even dissected owl pellets and created animal pictures.
