RED WOLF COALITION

By the late 1960's Red Wolves were endangered. During this time the USA Fish and Wildlife Service studied the few remaining red wolves only to determined that they were doomed to extinction. Thankfully however, that was not to be the case and with the help of last minute captive breeding and a reintroduction programme, the red wolf population now stands at 100 in the wild and 150 in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) - but they still need help if their recovery is to continue to be a success.

The Red Wolf Coalition is a charity which was officially founded in 1997 and supports the red wolf by giving the public the first real opportunity to become involved in the Fish and Wildlife Services Red Wolf Recovery Programme. With only one full time member of staff it is a small operation helping a very big cause.

R.I.P ODIN & ISHKA

Odin and Ishka, our two beloved European grey wolves, had come to us after being brought into the country illegally in the mid 1990's.
Their history before this was vague but they were thought to have been trained for commercial work in Russia.

As Odin and Ishka were brought up with humans from an early age, they loved interaction and to meet new people, which is why we used to run the 'Meet the Wolves' experience.

A percentage of this experience fund went directly to support the Red Wolves Coalition, along with our daily talks and donations box.

Odin and Ishka sadly passed away in February 2010.

They are deeply missed by everyone at Shepreth Wildlife Park and all the visitors who knew them.
